Sustainability is a ‘big thing’ in Wales. The Welsh Government has a constitutional duty to make sustainability its organising principle. In its ‘One Wales One Planet’ sustainability scheme it has committed to reducing the nation’s ecological footprint and adopted very challenging carbon reduction targets. Anybody who wants a piece of public funds, directly or through the supply chain, will be asked to prove their sustainability credentials. Despite the increased interest in sustainability here in Wales, accompanied by a lot of initiatives and worthy box ticking exercises, do we really understand the extent to which we are affecting planet Earth? We are modifying the planet’s natural systems, extracting and consuming resources faster than they can be regenerated and producing mountains of waste, on a scale that a few years ago would have been unimaginable. Do we really grasp the extent of the inequities associated with maintaining our own lifestyles and standard of living? Is the importance of language and culture sufficiently valued? How on earth will business people and leaders of big institutions make sense of this in a meaningful way? The A-dor sustainability review is a home grown product* that can help you do just that. There is a broad spectrum of people out there – only a few are dedicated, 100% card carrying tree huggers. The A-dor review is for all of you, whatever your starting point. We are not the sustainability police, we are not here to judge you, we are here to inspire you to think differently and to show people that you are interested in moving away from the old ‘business as usual’ model. Sustainability is a word that can be used in so many ways that we are in danger of diluting its true meaning. Sustainability is about more than recycling a few old newspapers or installing a low energy light bulb or two. It really is a fresh way of describing and developing our relationship with the economy, the environment and the people that make up communities at home and worldwide. Why not sign up for an A-dor review today? * The A-dor review started life in Wales as Bangor University’s Synnwyr Busnes Business Sense (SBBS) health-check, supported and funded by Bangor University, the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Regional Development Fund. When European funding ended it was re-designed as a review suitable for organisations of all sizes and attracted global interest.
